The Haystack was created by Francis Betters it was an innovation in fly tying. He tied the first Haystack in 1949. The Fly has no hackle allowing the fly to sit low in the water. It can be tied in different colors to match many mayflies or caddis. The Haystack was designed to look buggy and float on the rough water of the West Branch of the Ausable River in the Adirondacks.
